🪵 Paul and Babe’s Woodland Journey – Minnesota Layered Sign

This layered sign is designed to be painted in warm, rustic tones with playful folk-art flair. Use the guide below to bring out the charm of each element while keeping it approachable for all skill levels.

🐂 Paul & Babe Figures

• Paul’s Hat & Shirt: Deep red or forest green (classic lumberjack tones)

• Paul’s Beard & Pants: Warm gray or soft brown

• Babe the Blue Ox: Sky blue or denim blue with white horns and hooves

• Details: Use black or dark brown for outlines and facial features

🌲 Forest Layer

• Pine Trees: Mix olive, hunter green, and moss for depth

• Tree Trunks: Medium brown or walnut stain

• Optional Accents: Dry brush white on tree tips for a snowy look or add burgundy to trunks for a whimsical touch

🌊 River Layer

• Water: Soft blue, turquoise, or teal with white highlights for movement

• Riverbanks: Light tan or sandy beige

🪵 Background & State Outline

• Minnesota Shape: Natural wood stain, muted gray, or charcoal

• Back Layer: Deep navy, black, or dark brown to make foreground pop

🖌️ General Tips

• Paint lightest colors first, then layer darker tones

• Use makeup sponges for smooth coverage and blending

• Paint markers are great for small details

• Let each layer dry before gluing or assembling

• Optional: Seal with a clear matte spray for durability

• Encourage creativity — no two signs need to look alike!

To bring your sign to life, gather the following:

• Paint — acrylics work best

• Brushes or small makeup sponges for smooth coverage

• Paint markers — great for crisp lettering and fine details

• Glue to attach wood layers — I recommend a gel type super glue you can get from the Dollar Store, or try E6000, Stick Fast, or Gorilla Glue

• Optional embellishments — ribbons, buttons, glitter, or anything your heart desires

• Optional finishing touch — add a clear coat spray for durability or try antique wax for a rustic aesthetic
